Men,
interested in creating your own homemade shaving cream its simple and
easy!!! Men are just as interested in caring for their bodies as women
are. A man with clean skin and healthy hair can be very sexy. looking
good and feeling good about the way they look can also make men more
confident.
Today, men need more in their medicine
cabinet than a
deodorant stick and an aftershave splash: they need total skin, hair,
and body-care products. Most of the recipes in this site can be used by
both men and women. Yet each sex does require its own unique products,
Men shave their faces, and this creates a need for aftershaves, a good
homemade shaving cream, and lotions, Men also prefer bolder, spicier
scents for many of their products.

Bay Rum Aftershave
When my
grandfathers and great-grandfathers would visit the
local barber shop (the one with the candy cane-striped pole out front),
bay rum was the mens aftershave the barber would slap on their
faces.
Today, it is still one of the most commonly used aftershaves. There are
many versions of this old-fashioned skin tonic, but I like this recipe
because it is so easy and has the same spicy, citrus scent I remember
both of my grandfathers using.
What you need:
- ½ cup vodka or with hazel
- 2 tablespoons rum (Jamaican rum is preferred.)
- 2 dried bay leaves
- ¼ teaspoon whole allspice (found in the spice
section at the grocery store)
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Zest from one small orange (orange part only)
How to make:
Mix together all ingredients. Pour into a clean jar with a
tight-fitting lid. Place the jar in a dark, cool place for 2 weeks. At
the end of 2 weeks, strain off the liquid and pour into a clean
container. Discard any zest and other remaining solids. Splash on the
face after shaving. Makes 4 ounces
Basic
Homemade Shaving Cream
The purpose of
a good shaving cream is the help “set up” the
beard, to facilitate razor glide, and to help the skin hold in the warm
water that has been applied prior to smoothing on the shaving cream.
This is a great recipe you’ll enjoys using because it is a mild and
unscented cream.
What you need:
- ¼ cup stearic acid powder
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 teaspoon borax
- 2 table grated soap
How to make:
In a double boiler on the stove top, melt the stearic acid powder until
it is a clear liquid. Mix together the hot water, borax, and soap, and
stir until the borax and soap are completely dissolved.
Pour
the soap solution in a blender and turn on for about 1 minute, blending
on low speed. Slowly pour the melted stearic acid liquid into the soap
solution.
Blend on high until a smooth cream has formed. Pour
into a clean, open container and allow to cool completely. When cool,
stir the cream and put into a container with a tight-fitting lid or
cover with plastic wrap. This may be the best shaving cream and yet so
easy to make.

(Soften your beard with warm water and then
smooth the shaving cream over your face).
Double Take: You may need to give this cream a good stirring from time to time if
it’s been sitting on a shelf, but if you are using it everyday this
will probably not be necessary. Makes 8 ounces
