Products for
Children
All
of our products
for children vary from adult products in that young people have finer
hair, sensitive skin, and more delicate noses. Strong scents and
ingredients are not appropriate for children. Instead, lightly scented
products containing pure, natural ingredients are best for cleaning and
moisturizing skin and hair. It is important to keep children’s skin
clean, dry, and fresh. Doing this, will greatly reduce the risk of skin
problems or rashes that some children can develop.
Bathing
products for children should also be fun. If you make it something your
child wants to do, you help your children develop good health habits. the treatments below are fun projects for kids.
My kids know better than to go to bed with dirty skin and hair. Making
bath time enjoyable seems to take some of the chore out of it. I have
always encouraged them to be creative in the bath, and if this means
hauling out all the cooking tools for a bathtub restaurant or tinting
the water green, we have done it!
Many of the products for
children in this section are easy to create. Children can make them
along with their parents, although very young children may need more
help. They also make wonderful presents for birthdays and holidays. We
offer batches of scented play dough, or fantasy face paints.
Children’s
bath products should be stored in clean,
non-breakablecontainers.
Plastic seems to work best. It is always a good idea to keep
any
cosmetic product, even natural ones, where children cannot get into
them.
Something that smells good is often a temptation and
could upset a small stomach if ingested.Childhood is all about enjoying
your self and having fun. I always tell my little ones that
life is
meant to be lived and their job is to be the best at it!
Diaper
Cream
Today,
with the use of washing machines and disposable diapers, diaper rash is
no longer the common baby rash it once was. Babies’ bottoms are kept
drier, and they are getting changed more often. This keeps their
delicate skin dry and comfortable and gives it a chance to breathe.
If your little one’s delicate bum does happen to break out,
this
old-fashioned cure has stood the test of time.
It contains
liquid lecithin, a substance extracted from soybeans and used for ages
as an excellent moisturizer and diaper ointment. It protects baby’s
sensitive skin and keeps it dry. It should be applied once a day. For
extreme cases, use this cream every time you change your baby’s diaper.
What you need:
- 2 tablespoons soy lecithin
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon apricot kernel
- ¼ teaspoon vitamin E oil
- ½ cup distilled water
How
to make: Mix together the lecithin, coconut oil, apricot
kernel oil,
and vitamin e oil. Heat this mixture gently until the coconut oil is
liquefied . Gently heat the distilled water until it is roughly the
same temperature as the oil mixture. Pour the lecithin mixture into a
blender and start stirring. Slowly add the warm water and blend on high
until he mixture is thick and creamy. Pour the cream into a clean
container and allow it to cool completely, stirring occasionally. Apply
a small amount onto your baby’s clean bottom before diapering. (You can
adjust this cream’s consistency by adding more or less water to the
recipe) makes 6 ounces.
Coconut
Baby Oil
Coconut
oil is used to make adult skin and hair care products and is also mild
enough products for children. This is a rich tropical recipe that is
perfect for baby care before or after bath. I like to use it on my little
ones’ feet in the summer to keep them soft and smooth after a
day
of running around barefoot.
What you need:
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- ½ tablespoon grated cocoa butter
- 2 tablespoons castor oil
How
to make: In a heat resistant container mix together all
the
ingredients. Heat gently in the microwave or in a water bath until the
coconut oil and cocoa butter are melted. Stir well and let the mixture
cool completely. Spoon into a clean container. Massage a small amount
into warm skin after bathing. Makes 2 ounces
